Q&A

The definition of our Gravel geometry was the key to unlock the potential of the first-generation UNRESTRICTED: from the beginning we decided to disrespect traditional drop-bar geometry to achieve the stability, traction and control required by off-road riding because, ultimately, gravel riding is off-road riding. URS Geometry or Gravel+ geometry as we like to call it is defined by a longer than usual frame reach, paired with short stems resulting in a long front-center to achieve stability and reactive steering, similar to what we have been doing on MTB’s since the inception of 29” wheels. Another defining trait is the use of 0mm offset seatpost to center the provide the rider the best position when navigating technical terrain and steep uphill which are common when riding rough gravel. On the second-generation URS we adapted this approach to wider tires, as a result the chainstays have grown slightly to provide even better traction and the BB has been lowered to provide more stability and compensate for the bigger tires.

Yes it definitely gets smaller from a first look at tire clearance and riding scenarios. However, there are multiple key differences between the two categories. As the handlebar grip position changes your position on the bike, Drop bars bikes have a at least a 30-40mm shorter reach and 15-20mm lower stack than MTBs. Storage options are as well not much designed on MTBs. You can find a lot of attachment points on the URS fork legs, top tube and MTT cover that MTB's won't offer.

Drop handlebars allow for a riding position and a fit that is way more efficient for covering long distances than hardtail MTB’s. While you could argue that is possible to use drop handlebars on MTB’s, the fit and geometry optimization (centered around a 45-50 mm tire size) of a Gravel frame greatly improve the riding experience with other factors such as reduced q-factor contributing to it.

Once the terrain starts to get really steep, loose and technical a flat-bar MTB is definitely the better tool for the job, especially if riders plan to spend most of their riding time on that type of terrain. And jumps! Jumps on a dropper bike are sketchy!
