De Kleijn wins again despite crash in Grand Prix d’Isbergues
Arvid De Kleijn sprinted to victory in the Grand Prix d’Isbergues, just a week after winning the Grand Prix de Fourmies.
De Kleijn on the BMC Teammachine 01 shared: “It was a good race; we had everything under control all day until I crashed with a few teammates three laps before the finish. My first concern was making sure my head was fine, so I asked myself a few questions and was able to answer them all, which made me think I was okay to continue. The team asked if I wanted to give it another shot, and I did.”
De Kleijn then continued his race. “We had to wait at the crash site for a while as we were the last car, but we managed to get back in”, he said.
By that time, he only had Rick Pluimers and Maikel Zaijlaard with him. “They did an incredible job. During the sprint, Maikel stayed with me for a long time, and at one point, I even thought he could take the win. Eventually, I went for it and won. It feels amazing.”
De winner of the Grand Prix concluded: “I was in a lot of pain from the crash—it was tough—but with teammates like these, it feels great to push through and finish the job. I hope I can recover quickly and be ready for the next race on Friday at Kamp Van Vlaanderen.”
